Over $3M in prize money, with 60 horses lining up in seven races scheduled at newly refurbish multimillion dollar facilities as the Port Mourant Turf Club stages it’s annual one day Emancipation Horse race meet at it’s race course, Port Mourant Berbice.
Most of the 60 leading racehorses have looked good at practice and some fast times are anticipated.
The main feature B & Lower event will see the winner taking away $300,000 and trophy compliments of the organisers.
Among the leading horses which will participate in the event to be run over a distance of 1600m are Miss Republic, Jumbo Joy, Tropical Passion, The Message, Delmur Gold and Laura lee In Flight, battling against the American invasion of Day Light Reprise, Illogical, Annie’s Play Mate and Irish Gel.
The 3-year-olds will also be competing over a mile for a top prize of $220,000. Top horse La Bayamosa of the Jagdeo stables returns to the competitive arena after a long lay off and will be severely tested by the likes of Royal Champion, Lady of My Dreams, Prixie Fire along with new imports Marcus Star and Zip-pa-de-doo-da running out of the Jumbo Jet stables.
The 2-year-old open gallop will be contested over five furlongs with a $200,000 purse at stake.
Zionata of the Jumbo Jet stable will be looking for another win among the new comers, but will first have to overcome the likes of Peaceful, Gems Pride, War Path, Miracle Silver, Miss Bounty, Mona Lisa, Baby Girl and Celebration Time.
The F and lower class animals will compete for a first prize of $180,000, over a distance of six furlongs.
Those expected to take centre stage and contest for the prize money are Pinch the Cash, the Message, the Gap, Alphabet, Finishing Touch, Face D Music, World Class and Prospectors Pride.
The ‘I’ and Lower winner collects $120,000 in the seven furlong affair. The J K & L horses compete for a top purse of $100,000 over six furlongs, while the final race of the day has been reclassified to read ‘I’3 maiden horses 3-years old and above and they will be battling for $100,000 purse over Five Furlongs.
Among other animals expected to enter the starting gates are Casino Royal, Fire Power, Matterazi, Strike D Fire, New World, Foolish Pleasure Natural Black, Fantastic Light, Miss Kimberly, Lightning Mc Queen, Sweetness and Beyonce.
Businessman Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall Bourda Market has once again donated the trophies for the Champion and Runner-up Jockeys and the top trainer.
The Champion jockey and the runner-up will also receive $10,000 and $5,000 respectively compliments of the organisers.
The facilities have been refurbished and the track has also been recently upgraded and relayed and some fast times are anticipated.
Owners as well as jockeys are being reminded that they must possess a valid GHRA licence on race date. Any contravention of the rules will see them or their animals being debarred from participating.
Race time is 13:30 hrs and no vending will be allowed.
