After some time on the market, Empowerment Building, which is located next to the Duke Lodge has been sold to Tony Reid for $63M. This newspaper understands that the bid was the highest offer.
Meanwhile, Herdmanston House which was under the control of the Guyana Sugar Corporation, was sold to one Michael George for US$650,000.The sale which agreed to by virtue of the fact that George already owns Herdmanston Lodge.
The deals have raised the question just how much money was spent to renovate the buildings before its sale, given that the sale of the Duke Lodge had raised several red flags.
The Government of Guyana, by way of National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL)/ Privatisation Unit (PU) / Linmine Secretariat, last year April, had also advertised seeking buyers for some 23.6793 acres of state-owned land.
One of the properties for sale is the approximately two- acre Noitgedacht House Lots, Plots 1 to 9 located at Plantation Noitgedacht on the East Bank of Demerara.
There is also another 4.2 acres up for grabs at South Mackenzie K/A Industrial Area, being part of Plantation Noitgedacht, on the East Bank of Demerara.
Another four acres is also on sale at South Watooka, namely a portion of the former Golf
Course of the Frontlands of Lot 44 or Plantation Fair’s Rust, on the East Bank of Demerara.
Some 28 lots are up for sale at Plantation Fair’s Rust, namely Portions of Sections “A” and “B”, portion of Plantation Noitgedacht, on the East Bank of Demerara.
Plot NCN and Richmond Flats at Plantation Fair’s Rust are also up for grabs.
The Privatisation Unit/NICIL executed eight property sale transactions for Guysuco in 2008 amounting to almost $200M.
