– victim’s money missing after accident
Doctors were up to press time battling to save the life of Lloyd Smith, 64, of 106 Third Street, Prospect, East Bank Demerara.
Smith was struck down by a police vehicle in the vicinity of the Alberttown Police Station, yesterday afternoon.
An eyewitness to the accident told Kaieteur News that the police vehicle was proceeding at a fast rate when it struck Smith.
The injured man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, with injuries to the neck, hands and feet.
Kaieteur News understands that Smith sustained a fractured neck and was up to press time receiving oxygen and intravenous drips.
The man’s wife, Sandra Smith, told Kaieteur News that she received a phone call from the police informing her about the accident.
The woman said that she immediately rushed to the hospital. She said that she last saw her husband yesterday morning around 07:30hrs when he was leaving for work.
She said that her husband, who is employed as an electrical contractor, left home with over a $100,000 cash to conduct business.
However Kaieteur News understands that the man arrived at the hospital with less than $20,000.
Sources further told Kaieteur News that the man after being questioned by hospital officials said that he still had the money in his possession up until the accident happened.
A source told this newspaper that “we trying to figure out where the money disappeared to.”
