Registration set for today
The East Coast Cricket Board will be holding it 8th Annual Cricket Academy from Monday August 3 – 14.
The venue is the Lusignan Community Centre. This year’s Academy will cater for sixty (60) youths between the ages of 12 to 16 years and will be held under the Theme ‘Healthy Life Style and Sports as a Vocation’.
Among the topics to be looked at during the period of the programme are: History of W.I Cricket, Coaching for Cricketers, Laws of Cricket, Scoring, Road Safety, Careers in Cricket, Drugs and Sports, Importance of Education, Food and Nutrition, Leader ship & Sportsmanship, HIV and Teenage Sex, Social Etiquette/Grooming, Formation of Clubs and Discipline.
The resource personnel include several knowledgeables in the requisite fields. Among them are: commentator Edwin Seeraj, cricketers/coaches L. Yadram, C. Grimmond, G. Nedd, H. Sattaur, O. Bailey, Umpire D. Anandjit, the Cove and John Police, GCB president Chetram Singh, Dr. Shanti Singh, Dr. Peters, former WI player Roger Harper, Dr. Haynes, Penelope Harris, Director of Sport Neil Kumar and GCB PRO Terry Holder.
Registration and selection of persons will be done today July 30 at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground from 10:00am.
All Clubs on the East Coast are asked to send two representatives or contact Judister Rampersaud on tel. # 647-4439.
Participants must be students at the Secondary level and are representatives of clubs affiliated to East Coast Cricket Board.
The main objectives of the academy is to instill in young cricketers of both sexes, the values of sportsmanship and education, the dangers of substances abuse, skills and attitude required to pursue a career in cricket.
