The development of local Taekwondo has received a major boost with the return of Alim Azimullah, who successfully earned the internationally recognised World Taekwondo Federation Coaches Certificate and Diploma in coaching.
Azimullah, a 2nd Dan World Taekwondo Federation Kukkiwon Black Belt holder was selected by the Guyana Taekwondo Association (GTA) on invitation from the Guyana Olympic Association, to attend the High Performance Training Course for Coaches which was held in Mexico City from July 13 – 18, 2009.
It was sponsored by the International Olympic Committee with the aim of upgrading coaches to be able to train and maintain their high performance athletes at a world standard throughout the year.
According to a Press Release from the local Federation, the course was highly theoretical and Azimullah learnt that to reach the top, especially for World Events such as Olympics, athletes must practice, three time a day, for about two hours daily almost every day of the month, taking careful note of sleeping/eating, exercising habits and routines.
In Azimullah’s own words “The course was very informative and interesting.”
Azimullah, who joined the GTA at the tender age of 11, has been an active and dedicated member for the past 15 years.
He has shown that success does come from hard work and dedication, and in turn he has been reaping the benefits of all his hard labour for many years now by way of successfully securing several Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals for himself and Guyana through the GTA in the many International and Local Taekwondo competitions, which he has competed in.
Azimullah is expressing gratitude to his parents, who showed their love and support for him by ensuring his attendance at every training session as a child.
The coaches and members of the GTA who helped him to reach this far in Taekwondo also came in for high praise, as well as the members of the GOA, the IOC and the Mexican Olympic Committee, who made the course possible.
