Alpha United and Victoria Kings progressed to the semi-finals of the East Coast Reunion Knockout ‘Million Dollar Baby’ Football Tournament after contrasting victories Tuesday night at the Georgetown Football Club ground.
Alpha United defeated Ann’s Grove 2-0 in the first game while Victoria Kings overcame Western Tigers 8-7 on penalties.
The goal scorers for Alpha were Abassi McPherson in the 22nd minute and Anthony Harding in the 40th minute.
McPherson, who was playing defence, put the Georgetown side ahead after overlapping and slapping a powerful left foot shot pass Ann’s Grove keeper Helton Fraser. Ann’s Grove was left helpless after Harding made it 2-0.
The score-line read nil-all when both regulation and extra time expired in the much-hyped featured encounter between Tigers and Kings. A total of 20 penalty shots were taken to decide the winner of the intense feature game.
The remaining quarter-final matches will be played tomorrow from 6pm when the Guyana Defence Force meet Santos in the first game and Mahaica Determinators challenges Fruta Conquerors from 8pm in the feature game.
