Ramlal, Mc Lean matters reassigned

Interdicted Registrar of the Supreme Court, Evelyn Sita Ramlal, and former Major General in the Guyana Defence Force, Norman Mc Lean, made yet another court appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate, Melissa Robertson, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police Prosecutor, Denise Griffith, told the court that advice has been given in the matters by the Director of Public Prosecution, Shalimar Ali-Hack.
Griffith said that the preliminary inquiry could commence.
Attorney-at-law, Nigel Hughes, who is one of the many lawyers on the legal team for the defendants, told the court that he has no problem with the matters being reassigned. However, he said that the matters should be sent to a “less busy” court.
He also asked that an early date be set since Ramlal is presently out of a job.
The matter was transferred to court two for August 24.
On the last occasion, attorney-at-law, Nigel Hughes, had argued about advice not being given in the court. The lawyer saw the measure as an attempt to keep Ramlal away from her work.
He had argued that a matter of this nature should have already been given advice.
The Registrar and Mc Lean were slapped with six charges stemming from forging an adoption order to conspiracy to commit a felony.
Since Ramlal’s appearance in the magistrate’s court, she has been interdicted from duty, the decision was taken by the Judicial Service Commission pending the determination of Ramlal’s court matter which is currently before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
