A 22 year old rehab assistant from the Rupununi succumbed in a Brazil hospital on Saturday night following a collision between two motorcycles on the Lethem airstrip road.
Clinton D’Oliviera, of St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, succumbed to massive head injuries after he was flung from his motorcycle at around 19:00 hours.
Another man, Jermaine Thakurdeen, 24, also of Central Rupununi who was riding the other motorcycle is presently in a critical condition at the Lethem Hospital suffering from multiple injuries to several parts of his body.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that D’Oliviera was riding his motorcycle when he swerved from a horse and lost control.
He slammed into Thakurdeen who was riding in the opposite direction and was hurled several yards before landing on his head.
D’Oliviera was picked up in an unconscious condition and rushed to the Lethem Hospital.
However, so severe were his injuries that he was subsequently taken to another medical facility in neighbouring Brazil where he eventually perished without regaining consciousness.
