Three children, aged eight, five and fours years old escaped serious injuries on Saturday night, as they managed to run to safety before their house came crashing down in De Groot, Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara.
The children’s mother, Pamela Harrinarine, told Kaieteur News yesterday that the house was leaning to one side for quiet a long time now, but she did not repair it due to the lack of finance.
The woman added that at approximately 6:30 hrs on Saturday evening; she was untying her hammock from the shed of the house, when the shed fell on her head. She said that at that time, her children were already asleep in the house and she screamed for them to run out of the building immediately.
“Meh nah been expect de house fuh fall and when meh come outside and stand up with meh children dem, the whole house fall down,” Harrinarine told Kaieteur News.
The woman along with her husband and three children have been living in the house for the past six years.
“Meh nah gat no chairs or nothing to sit down pon in the house, so meh does tie the hammock on de shed fuh de children dem lie down, meh nah know wah meh guh do now,” the tearful mother said.
The family now intends to use the same materials to rebuild the house with the help of neighbours.
Harrinarine also added that she would appreciate any kind of contributions that members of the public want to make.
