Roraima Airways has increased its’ local fleet of airplanes to with the latest addition of an Islander to its fleet. Yesterday, a number of local media operatives were afforded the opportunity of flying in the aircraft around the city.
Speaking to the media after the flight piloted by Captain Gerry Gouveia, Captain Learie Barclay, who is also a pilot with Roraima Airways, and the company’s Maintenance Coordinator, stated that yesterday’s event was slated to give the media an insight into the company’s operations and to introduce the new aircraft so that the public can know that it is now in operation.
“It has just completed four weeks of extensive checks by the engineering company to ensure that it was in great condition and it was passed with an excellent bill of health so its now a new addition to the commercial aircrafts operating into Guyana.”
The two other Islanders that the company has are currently undergoing maintenance works and the latest addition will boost Roraima Airways’ ability to service its clientele, which consists of the tourism market.
Barclay also stated that they have and will continue to support the mining community as well as medical evacuations into the jungle at nights to save the lives of persons. It was disclosed that the company also has a contract with Federal Express which sees them going to Trinidad five days per week.
The cost of the new aircraft is about US$300,000 and yesterday’s flight was its first.
