Prudence Williams devastated Berbice with her off-spin bowling then participated in the partnership that led Demerara to a five-wicket win when the senior female Inter-County Limited Overs cricket competition commenced yesterday.
Williams seriously took part in the demise of Berbice for 71 runs off 30.2 overs with her excellent figures of 4-8 off eight overs with five maidens. She scored 16 not out to ensure that her team secure the initial victory.
Demerara reached 72-5 off 35 overs after some nervous moments. June Ogle had 17 runs while Abeina Parker scored 10 runs in the Demerara win. Nekeita Tony, Hermela Sewdat and Natasha Gangoo had one wicket each for Berbice.
Tremaine Smartt had scored 14 runs for Berbice, while Erva Giddings scored 11. The Demerara side gave away 20 extras in the game, which contributed to the final score that the Berbicians were able to make competitive.
Davanie Sewnarine was excellent support for Williams with her 3-16 off eight overs with Joann Vansertima taking 1-15 off 2.2 overs.
Berbice had won the toss and chose to bat in the match that started late owing to soggy outfields.
