A 47-year-old mother and her employer were yesterday remanded by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Donnette Awer, 47, of Lot 22 Kalicharran Sand Road, Soesdyke; and Oswald Roberts, are accused of having in their possession 88 grams of cannabis, on July 23 for the purpose of trafficking.
They both pleaded not guilty.
Awer was represented by attorney at law Michael Sommersaul, while Roberts was represented by attorney at law Adrian Thompson.
According to Awer’s lawyer, his client, who does part-time work with Roberts, was called to do some cleaning on the day in question.
The lawyer explained that after the woman arrived at the premises she began doing what was required.
Sommersaul told the court that his client was stopped after ranks swooped down on Roberts’ residence and conducted a search.
In that search the prohibited substance was found and Awer was arrested. The lawyer said that his client, after being arrested, allegedly overheard Roberts telling the police that the drugs had belonged to him.
Attorney at law Adrian Thompson, in a bail application, told the courts that two other persons were in the house before the police came.
The lawyer added that nothing was found in his client’s possession to prompt ownership.
The Police Prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that the section under which the two defendants were charged does not permit bail unless special reasons are given.
The defendants are expected to make another court appearance on July 29.
