President’s X1 to play Celebrity as curtains lower on Blind Cricket competition

Administrators of the West Indies Blind Cricket Association (WICCB) will this morning bring the curtains down on just over a week of pulsating cricket action among blind cricketers, with a Twenty20 match between a selected side drawn from key members of the just concluded blind cricket championships, dubbed the President’s X1, and a Celebrity team comprising of past West Indian cricketers and members of the local media fraternity, at the Providence Stadium, Providence EBD.
Former West Indies spin bowler, Roger Harper leads the Celebrity team, which also includes his brother, Mark, sports journalists, Calvin Roberts and Ravindra Mandolall, former West Indies pace bowler, Colin Stuart and Hiralall Kissson among others.
The match will officially bring the curtains down on intense rivalry between blind players from Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana.
A member of the organising committee further notes that the teams, even though engaged in fierce rivalry to procure honours, would be using the match to cement relationships among their colleagues and friends in the region.
The entire President’s X1 team reads: Guyana: Leroy Phillips, Oliver Kirr, Ganesh Singh (all B1 players) and Kevin Douglas (B3). Barbados: Granville Carter (B1), Ricardo Manning, Cheryl Griffith and Haldine Forde (B2). Trinidad and Tobago: Vincent Modeste (B2), Nigel Francis (B1), Rodney Ramrattan, Gennson Poya and Sheldon Phillips (B3).
The match gets underway at 13:00hrs sharp.
