Guyana’s Under-19 cricketers suffered their second defeat of the TCL Regional 3-day cricket competition, losing to Barbados by 9 wickets in their 4th round encounter played at Jamalco, in Jamaica.
Resuming on their overnight score of 95-4 with a lead of 49 and playing in overcast conditions, the Guyanese were sent packing for 145 at 11:26hrs off 42.1 overs. Jonathan Foo resuming on his overnight score of 10 added two more before he fell caught behind with the score at 95-4.
The only other batsman to offer any resistance was Totaram Bishun with 10 as the last six batsmen fell 50 runs.
The top scorer of the innings was Trevon Griffith with 53.
The main wreckers for Barbados were Jason Holder 5-44 from 15 overs and K. Mayers grabbing 4-42 from 17.1 overs to take his overall tally in the competition to 26 wickets.
Set 100 to win, Barbados knocked off the runs with ease as they finished on 101-1, with Kraigg Braithwaite undefeated on 47 and Royston Chase 25 not out. Opener Anthony Allen contributed 24, as the Bajans wrapped up victory at 14:35hrs.
Guyana with16 points will now face Trinidad and Tobago starting tomorrow.
Barbados, who recorded their second outright win of the competition now move to third position and will play Jamaica in Round 5 starting tomorrow, as both teams do battle for second place honours.
Trinidad and Tobago defeated the Leeward Islands on the third day of their match played at Chedwin Park.
The Leeward Islands were dismissed for 143, giving Trinidad victory by an innings and 6 runs.
Trinidad & Tobago were helped by Javed Boodram’s 3-17, Kissoondath Magram’s 3-56 and Teshawn Castro’s 2-19. Captain Kejel Tyson fought to give the Leeward Islands’ innings some measure of respect with 43 not out.
Trinidad & Tobago are virtually assured of the 3-Day championship, with one round of matches remaining. They now lead the points table with 42 from four matches.
