The nation’s top race walkers will once again compete for honours, when the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) stages another event, dubbed ‘the Soesdyke/Coverden Race Walk,’ scheduled for Sunday.
The walkers would be sent on their way from the Soesdyke/Coverden NDC office, journey around the village and back to the place of origin.
National race walk champion, Rudolph Mitchell recently completed his 92nd victory on the trot and would be aiming to extend his winning streak to 93, enroute to the coveted 100 mark.
He would, however, have to be wary of young and ambitious walkers the likes of Jonathon Fagundes and O’Neil Durant, two of his fiercest rivals.
Keen competition is also anticipated in the veteran’s category, where the likes of Maurice Fagundes and Debideen Dyal would be staking claims for honours. Added to that, several eager and competent newcomers to the sport would also be vying for top spots.
The walkers would compete for prizes donated by the corporate community and Chairman of the National Development Council, Mr. C. Glasgow would send the walkers on their way at 06:00hrs sharp.
Competitors are asked to be at the starting point by 06:00hrs to facilitate a prompt start.
