Over $3 million in cash and prizes are up for grabs, when the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) stages its annual Emancipation seven-event, one-day horse race meet at its Track at Port Mourant Corentyne Berbice on Sunday August 2.
A number of feature events are on the day’s card, which will be highlighted by the clash of the champions in the B & Lower category. Other top races listed are for horses classified F & Lower, Three-year-old Open Guyana and West Indian bred, and the Two-year-old Open.
The main feature B & Lower event will see the winner taking away an enormous $300,000 over a distance of 1600m. The Three-year-olds will also battle over a similar distance for a top prize of $220,000, while the Two-year-old open gallop will be contested over five furlongs with a $200,000 purse.
The F and Lower class animals compete for a first prize of $180,000, over a distance of six furlongs. The ‘I’ and Lower winning prize is worth $120,000 over seven furlongs. The Unclassified Division 1 & 2 competes for a purse of $100,000. The final race of the day will witness horses in the Unclassified Div 3 battling for $90,000.
Entries for the meet close on Sunday and over 50 animals have taken entry so far. Among them are: Miss Republic, Tropical Passion, Jumbo Joy, Delmur Gold, Laura lee In Flight, La Bayamosa, Pinch the Cash, The Message, the Gap, Coconut Boy, Royal Champion Lady of My Dreams, Top of The Line, Peaceful, Justice Leroy, Zionata, War Path, Casino Royal, Prixie Fire, Alphabet, Finishing Touch, Fire Power, Matterazi, Face D Music, World Class, Prospectors Pride, Strike D Fire, New World, Kavinci, Foolish Pleasure, Natural Black.
Apart from the winnings for the top horses, trophies will be available for the champion jockey and runner-up along with the top trainer, compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
Owners as well as jockeys are reminded they must possess a valid GHRA licence on race date. Any contravention of the rules will see them and their animals debarred from participating. The tape flies at 13:30 hrs and no vending will be allowed.
