Ganesh Singh, a former Richard Ishmael Secondary student who is now 21, went to great lengths to get accepted into the Guyana Defence Force (GDF). He allegedly committed forgery.
The lot 613 Diamond Housing Scheme resident appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, yesterday, to answer two counts of forgery.
It is alleged that some time between the February 1 and February 28, Singh forged a Caribbean Secondary Examinations Council certificate, which he allegedly uttered to Glennis Joseph, a GDF officer knowing same to be forged.
The prosecutor said that the defendant applied to the GDF with the document, and had spent four months in the army when the document was discovered to be a fake.
Singh’s attorney described the incident as unfortunate, saying that his client has had no prior brushes with the law and is unemployed. He sought ‘reasonable’ amount, which was set at $100,000 for each count of forgery. Singh is to return to court on September 1.
