Promises to back club in every way
By Franklin Wilson
Despite the serious economic downturn of the world’s economy, there are still lots of persons who are still sharing the little that they have with the less fortunate.
Standing out like a beacon in this regard is the Wright family now resident in Maryland USA. This family according to William Wright was impressed with the work of Mark Benschop, President of Flamingo Football Club. “I was on line one day following the work the Mark Benschop Foundation was doing and I decided, along with my wife that we were going to help these guys.”
This has been the beginning of what has been to date a very fruitful relationship since this is the third donation the family has made to the club. William Wright yesterday handed over $500,000 worth of gear to the club. Among the items are three complete sets of uniforms, 20 pairs of boots and a number of balls.
Wright disclosed that he had purchased a total of 60 pairs of Admiral Brand boots but was only able to bring 20. The remainder will be sent to the club shortly.
He has promised that his family will continue to support the club in every way including the personal development of the players. “We will also be procuring track suits for the players and coaches as well as back packs, shin guards and more balls so that club can perform to the best on and off the field.”
President of the Club Mark Benschop stated that part of his responsibility is to ensure that the club has adequate sponsorship to give the players the kind of equipment they need.
“A very good friend of mine and a member of the foundation overseas has made this since he wants to ensure that the youth especially are well prepared so that when they go out to challenge others they put up a good fight. It’s taking these kids off from being idle and have them utilise their skills very positively.”
Wright conveyed the gratitude of his family to Flamingo and Benschop for allowing them to take care of their football needs. “We want to thank you for giving us the chance to sponsor you to give some hope for a better tomorrow.” “We will donate on a continuous basis all your uniforms, transportation and anything you need to keep your game up to par with your competitors – we will be there for you.”
Benschop also noted that members of the club can visit the Foundation to learn and further their skills utilising the facilities offered, CXC classes and computer classes.
Club coach Aubrey Marshall, who has been working tirelessly to keep the club on the right path, in remarks expressed his gratitude to the donor while acknowledging the good performances of his players over the past year.
Flamingo qualified for the Premier League after finishing runner up to League winners Western Tigers. They have also advanced to the quarter-finals of the current Guinness/Georgetown Football Association/Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport/National Sports Commission Futsal tournament.
Marshall emphatically stated that they are going all out to win the tournament and when they do so it will be their second Futsal title.
“The donation will do a great deal of good for our club. At the moment it will take care of our immediate need for boots which players would have had to share, but now each player will be comfortable.”
Other club executives including Vice President Clive Nurse and some players were present to show their appreciation to the Wright family. The equipment will take care of the needs of the Under-15, 17 and senior teams.
