The East Coast Demerara Reunion Football Tournament got off to a cracking start at the Victoria Community Centre Ground on Saturday night with Ann’s Grove overcoming old rivals Golden Stars 3-2 in a trilling encounter.
Kwesi Halley put Golden Stars ahead in the 10th minute after he had received a cross from Carlos Kingston, which he fired pass goalkeeper Helton Fraser. Ann’s Grove’s persistence paid off when striker Oswald “Corn” Duke netted in the 17th minute and brought the crowd alive again which became inpatient after they conceded the first goal. The score line remained 1-1 at half time.
Trion Trotman put Golden Stars ahead in the 56th minute with a well placed shot from just inside the 18 yard box after he received a through pass. Dwayne Rogers rocked the net in the 67th for Ann’s Grove to level the scores 2-2.
Duke sealed the deal for Ann’s Grove in the 85th minute when he dribbled the last defender and goalkeeper to score. Ann’s Grove will now meet the winner of the Plaisance and Alpha United clash on Saturday.
