President Bharrat Jagdeo has released $2.8M to support the holding of Emancipation Day festivities that commemorate the end of slavery in Guyana 175 years ago on August 1, 1834, GINA has reported
The Head of State had met with Stanley Cooke, Manager – Sustainability Development Fund of the African Cultural Development Association (ACDA) and officials from the Bagotville Cultural Circle led by Chairman Ashton Crawford to finalize support for their respective celebrations on July 15 at the Office of the President to finalize the arrangements.
ACDA will receive the money for its grand festivities that will be held at the National Park, while the Bagotville Cultural Circle will get $300,000 to host its seven-day programme at the Bagotville Community Centre, West Bank Demerara.
