Triveni defeated Belle Plaine by 47 runs to win the final of the Sattrohan Equipment Rental 15 overs Inter-Mandir softball cricket competition played last Saturday at Sewram’s Tarmac in Belle Plaine Wakenaam.
Triveni took first strike and made 145 all out in 15 overs with Melvorne Daniels 31, Dilip Persaud 29, Navin Narain 20 and Dawarka Persaud 19 being the leading run scorers.
Satyaeshwar Ramcharran bagged 4-33 and Suraj Choon 2-28 for Belle Plaine who were bowled out for 98 in 14.2 overs in reply.
Govinda Persaud top scored with 21 while Bujindra Ali captured 4-16, Melvorne Daniels 2-19 and Vishal Kawal 2-2 for the victors.
Traveni collected the winning trophy and Belle Plaine the runner up prize while the other participating teams also received awards.
Meanwhile, the following players were given trophies for their efforts. Beshan Bhagpattie (Best Batsman), Bujindra Ali (Best Bowler), Chandreka Ragnauth (Batsman with most sixes), Keval Chulai (Batsman with most fours), Budram Persaud (for hitting the “biggest” six), Somnauth Pershad (best fielder) and Govinda Persaud (Most improve player).
At the presentation ceremony, the tournament organiser Tamesh Persaud thanked the sponsor Sattrohan Equipment Rental of Canal No1 and said it will be an annual event. He also thanked the Mandirs for participating in the competition.
In earlier matches, Traveni overcame Melille and Belle Plaine got the better of Zeelandia by 54 and 23 runs respectively.
Scores: Triveni 143 – 8 in 15 overs (Chandreka Ragnauth 52, Dilip Persaud 44, Mankad Dinban 3-16, Vijay Persaud 3-16) beat Melville 89 all out in 14 overs (Khemraj Surujpaul 31, Vishal Kawal 3-11, Melvorne Daniels (3-33).
Belle Plaine 168 -8 in 15 overs (Besham Bhagpattie 69, Budram Persaud 37, Keval Chulai 29) beat Zeelandia 145 – 5 in 15 overs (Navishaul Pooran 35, Darmin Pooran 24, Satyaeshwar Ramcharran 2-23, Suraj Choon 2-32). (Zaheer Mohamed)
