Dear Editor,
In response to the article “What race-based voting is Corbin talking about?” dated Wednesday, July 15, 2009.
In that article, the writer Mr. T. King seemed to see only one side of the coin and is obviously biased towards Mr. Corbin and the PNC.
He began his argument quoting Mr. Corbin’s statements on the present military coup in Honduras and later accused him and the PNC in a sarcastic manner of rigging elections in Guyana. He proceeded to inquire that if Afro-Guyanese makes up about 30% of the population, why then did the PNC get a whooping 70% during Mr. Forbes Burnham rule and a massive 85% through Mr. Hoyte.
Mr. King has obviously not resided in Guyana over the last 50 years or is too biased to accept the fact that Guyanese vote race. Don’t get me wrong! Neither am I in support of voting race nor the alleged wrong doings of the PNC during their stint (1964-1992).
My point is that if the PNC did rig elections to win, the bigger question is why? They did it because “Guyanese vote-race” and under those circumstances the PNC might never truly be able to win and that is the bottom line.
