Dear Editor,
I view all of the major newscasts in Guyana. What one misses from a certain newscast, one is sure to catch something from a different view on another newscast so I do not discriminate. Plus, in Guyana, it is essential that one views as much of the newscasts as possible as many of them contain subjective and inaccurate reporting.
The thing is with many newscasts in Guyana is that they are late most of the times. Some newscasts air irregularly at different times in the evening. I guess the tardiness of many of us in Guyana and the late-coming culture has rubbed off on even the newscasts. With that being said I admire National Communications Network (NCN) especially for their on- time six o’ clock newscast.
But there are some times when I miss the six o’ clock programme, hence I believe it is that in mind which prompted the state-owned channel to bring the NCN Late Edition News at 10 pm. However, it is rather disappointing that we in Berbice do not get to see the NCN Late Edition News. The programme airs maybe once or twice per week only. Indian movies and other programming occupy the 10 pm time-slot and persons who may be otherwise disposed at 6pm and want to catch up on the news viewing at 10pm cannot get to do such.
I would like NCN to rectify this problem. Furthermore, I was directed to NCN’s website the other day where 98.1 FM is streaming 24 hours a day although it is streaming on a lower bandwidth than the Jump-TV streams (which has stopped since December of last year). The sound quality is also not digital as it had been on Jump-TV. Sometimes the feed is also unavailable.
There are also players which are supposed to be streaming Voice of Guyana (VOG) Live and Radio Roraima (RR) Live, but sadly these channels are not streaming. Engineers for the website should ensure these glitches are fixed. I was informed by someone in the I.T. Department of NCN that there is a bandwidth problem being experienced on the website as a result of the telephone company not providing sufficient bandwidth. The source further stated that while the streaming of 98.1 Hot FM is off frequently, it does work on some occasion and hopes that R.R. and V.O.G. would be streaming in a month or two.
The NCN website is power-packed with videos and other forms of media, pictures, etc. all thanks to State funds I’m sure.
