Fourteen Air Force Reservists with the 910th Airlift Wing are currently stationed in Guyana.
Their task is to assist in building a new schoolhouse to help benefit the children of Bel Air.
Tech Sergeant, Kevin Dillon of Champion, says that the group’s building project is moving along quite well.
“So far, we’ve got our block walls up. We’ve got our roof tresses set and we’re getting ready to set our sheeting and get our roofing on,” Dillon said.
The reservists are joined by members of the Army, Marines and some locals. It is part of a national initiative that includes more than 600 American soldiers and is designed to strengthen U.S. ties with Central and South America.
Sgt. Dillon says that the atmosphere has been very positive.
“Everybody is enthusiastic. Locals are very friendly. We’ve got some of the local defence forces working with us, helping us on the project.”
Sgt Dillon says that he’s documenting the entire trip and has already created a Facebook link to the actual project.
The 910th unit will be done with their part of the project by the end of the month.
Completion for the entire initiative is slated for the end of September.
