Sixty-five horses, $3.5 million and seven races spell extreme excitement for horseracing fans. This will be the case from 1:30pm today when the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club stage their one-day race meet at its No.6, Bel Air racetrack West Coast Berbice.
This is the first meet organised by the club for the year. Banks DIH limited and Rhythm Stars International Sounds System have once again come on board in a big way to make the activity a memorable one.
The Beverage giants, Banks DIH Limited, has again taken charge of the feature C class and lower 1600m gallop, which is the main event and will see the winner carting off $350,000 and the Banks DIH trophy.
Tropical Passion with a win in its last meet will be out to maintain winning ways, which will see a number of American Horses renewing their battle with the local brigade. Annie’s Playmate, Sweet Carmel, Illogical and new imports Pegasus Rising and Judy’s Perfect match strides with Jumbo Joy, Laura lee In Flight, Pinch the Cash, The Message, and the Gap in what is expected to be a close gallop.
The three-year Derby for horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies will once again see a head to head clash between Coconut Boy and Royal Champion for the $200,000 top prize, compliments of Dalip Trading over 1600m. Other contenders Lady of My dreams, Top of The Line, Tidal Wave, Star Streak, War Path, Casino Royal, Prixie Fire and Tidal Wave will all be looking for the upset.
In the two-year old event, Justice Leroy of the Crawford Stable will be out to dispense more justice on its opponents after winning in its first outing a week ago. Among the others that will be racing in the 1000m event for the $200,000 first prize are War Admiral, Miracle Silver, Extra Heat, Miss Bounty, Fiona, Baby Girl, Tiffany, Little Spike, Savian, G.T. Rush, Stormy Water and Infinity.
A top notch field has been assembled for the F and Lower showdown with the likes of Tropical Passion, Alphabet, The Gap, Laura lee In Flight, Finishing Touch, Fire Power, Matterazi, Pinch the Cash, Pegasus Rising and Mistaken Identity are all in with a chance in the 1200m battle for the $150,000 first prize.
The G class 1200m gallop also has a top notch field assembled for the $130,000 in winnings. Highlighting the entries for that showdown are Finishing Touch, Alphabet, Coconut, Boy, World Class, Royal Champion, Mystic, Well Heeled, Miami Vice and Prospectors Pride.
The two other races on the days card will see the ‘I’ and lower class animals racing for a first prize of $110,000, while the K and lower class contestants will be battling for a winning take of $95,000, compliments of C and V shipping. Both events will be run over a distance of 1200m. Among the other horses listed to compete on the day’s programme are Strike D Fire, New World, Fantastic Light, War Path, Kavinci, D Lyon, Quincy, Foolish Pleasure, Red Bull, Clear Vision, War Path, Rum Till I Die, President Junior and Natural Black.
According to organiser Ganesh Singh, Turfites are assured of a day full of activities. He said the track is in excellent condition and the facilities have also been upgraded. The organiser said a stage has been constructed for a dancing competition among other things, which will be held after the races. Music will be supplied by the Rhythm Star International Sounds Company.
Apart from the winnings for the top horses, trophies will be available for the Champion Jockey and Runner-up, compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall Bourda Market.
