City Hall, owner ignoring her complaints
A Public Road, Kitty, resident fears that her house may go up in flames one day if nothing is done about the drug addicts who have repeatedly lit fires in an abandoned building near her home.
Yesterday, firefighters arrived in the nick of time to extinguish a blaze in the dilapidated property. They were also called out on Friday night to put out a fire in the same building.
Kaieteur News understands that the building was once a guest house.
According to a woman who lives next door, drug addicts sneak into the building and sometimes light fires inside.
The woman said that a man who occupied the building was recently charged for stoning her home and shattering one of her windows. The Kitty resident feels that the eyesore should be demolished, since it is a fire hazard and a haven for unsavory characters.
But she alleged that despite repeated complaints, neither officials from the Mayor and City Council nor the owner has done anything to address the situation.
Kaieteur News understands that the owner subsequently visited the area and that a homeless man who had occupied the building has been detained.
