The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has expressed its concern and sadness over the destruction of the main building of the Ministry of Health in Brickdam.
The party, in a press statement, said that this was one of the nation’s beautiful architectural heritages.
According to the PPP, “compounding this is the initial evidence that points to the work of arsonists and terrorists.
This action has coincided with attempts by some fringe elements to try to heat up the political situation.”
The PPP said that the demonstrations and provocations of the police were no doubt deliberate to court arrest in the hope of gaining some support.
“It appears to have been immediately designed to create an atmosphere for arson and terrorism in the society,” the party said.
Meanwhile, Leader of the main opposition, Robert Corbin, told reporters at a press conference yesterday, that he is not in a position to comment on the fire as he is not in receipt of information on the cause of the fire.
He did point out that the nation cannot afford losses at a time when there is a struggling economy.
Over the past years, there have been four government ministries that have been destroyed by fires and according to Corbin; all kinds of allegations were made.
“I am not in a position to comment on what happened last night but I hope in the investigation, we can find some more information.
“Minister Ramsammy said that he was in the building until 10’0 clock that night. As to what was found in the building after he left, I am not in a position to comment.
I will leave it to the others and the reports and investigations. So the minister knows what he is saying, Corbin said.”
