A 19-year-old of 43 Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara, yesterday pleaded guilty to robbery and got a two-year jail term from Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
“I didn’t know what they were up to,” was what Delon Voucher had to say when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson asked him why he committed the crime.
According to reports, on July 14, in Georgetown, Voucher and four others attacked a couple.
Voucher shamelessly took responsibility for taking on the young woman in the unfortunate event, having put his arm around her neck, in a vice-like grip. A scuffle then took place, during which the criminals relieved the couple of a quantity of articles valued at $32,000.
Nothing was recovered and the accused was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
