– accused recovering in hospital
The Preliminary Inquiry into the murder of former Minister of Agriculture, Satyadeow Sawh, has been postponed due to the illness of accused David Leander, called ‘Biscuit’.
The accused was due to appear in the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court yesterday, but Magistrate Yohhahnseh Cave adjourned the matter to July 24.
Leander’s attorney, James Bond, told Kaieteur News that his client showed signs of improvement yesterday.
However, Bond said that he will be attempting to meet with Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, in a bid to have an official investigation launched into his client’s sudden illness.
Leander, 29, was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation’s Male Medical Ward on Thursday after collapsing in his cell. He was treated for persistent vomiting.
Leander has been charged with the murder of Minister Satyadeow Sawh, his brother Rajpat Sawh, sister Pulmattie Persaud and security guard Curtis Robertson, who were slain on April 22, 2006, when a gang of heavily armed men invaded the Minister’s La Bonne Intention, East Coast Demerara home.
