Banks DIH and Chatterpaul Deo presented trophies yesterday to Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club Organising Secretary Compton Sancho at the Trophy Stall in Bourda Market, signalling their commitment to support Sunday’s horseracing meeting.
With some 60 of the country’s leading racehorses entered to compete, horseracing lovers are assured of an action packed day of exciting races at the Club’s Bel Air #6 Village, West Coast Berbice racetrack.
Banks DIH manager Mortimer Stewart handed over a beautiful trophy that will go to the winner of the 2-year-old event, while Brian Sealey presented another trophy on behalf of Chatterpaul Deo for the winner of the 3-year-old Open contest.
Some $4M are up for grabs in this 8-race meet and the main attraction features C & Lower Class horses battling over a distance of 1600m in the Banks DIH sponsored event. A top prize of $350,000 is at stake.
According to Sancho, several of the horses in this race have been performing eye catching gallops in practice. And based on their performance and the excellent shape of the racetrack, Turfites are in for a rollicking day at the races.
Tropical Passion, The Message, Jumbo Joy, Annie’s Playmate and Laura Lee in Flight were impressive in workouts and a scorching main event is anticipated.
Sponsored by Dalip Trading, the 3-year- olds in the open category is the main supporting event, featuring horses that are West Indian as well as Guyana bred competing for honours with the winner collecting a $200,000 purse over 1600m.
Coconut Boy fresh from a win last weekend, was looking great during practice and an riveting contest is expected against Royal Champion and Prixie Fire, who were also impressive during gallops.
Other races feature the 2-year-old Open over 1000m for a $200,000 purse, the F and lower class with a first prize of $150,000 over 1200m, G&H and Lower for a $130,000 prize over 1200m, the I and Lower class battles over 1200m for a first prize of $110,000, the Unclassified Division 1 & 2 competes over 1200m for a purse of $95,000 and the Unclassified Div 3 over 1200m for $85,000.
