Oswald Rupine, 41, of 55 Hadfield Street, Lodge, was not hungry but he allegedly did what dogs do. He reportedly bit the nose of another. He was granted self bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Mellissa Robertson, yesterday, after he appeared to answer the charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm.
The self employed joiner pleaded not guilty. He explained that he was attacked by the virtual complainant, Shane Wong.
On July 14 last, he said that he had gone to Wong’s residence to collect his grandchild, claiming that the child was not Wong’s.
“I said, ‘Look at that child, she is not Chinese; she’s Negro”. The defendant added that he proceeded to bend over to pick up the child, when Wong swung his knee upward hitting him in the face.
Rupine related that he then put his arm around Wong’s neck and bit him on the nose.
Wong of 28/48 Brickdam, Stabroek, had a visible bandage over his nose, as he related his side of the story.
He told the court that he and the mother of the child, Erica Rupine, were separated for the past five months and that they took turns keeping the child. He recounted that on Tuesday around 11:30 hrs the accused came to his home to collect the child, then told him that the child was not his.
The defendant said that he then tried to pull the child out of Rupine’s hands and the scuffle started. It was during this scuffle that Rupine bit Wong’s nose, almost removing the entire right side.
Rupine was placed on self bail and is to return to court on July 23.
