GT&T’s Cellink, on Sunday, concluded the semifinal segment of its 2009 Jingles and Song Competition, at the Theatre Guild.
To a house packed to overflowing 15 semifinalists took the stage. Ten would be selected from the 15 semifinalists for the Final Show at a venue and date to be announced.
The lineup for the Grand Finale on July 26 will be shortlisted from those participating at the final show.
This time around the majority upped their act and spectacular performances were provided by Carlvin Burnette, Quacy Coates, Pheona Da Silva, Raoule Samuels and Malika Boyd.
Anece Hicks was also a scene stealer, while others were also warmly applauded for their efforts. Kwasi Cox was commended for his musical dramatic abilities and Ashford Ward continues to impress with his powerful vocals and natural melody.
Several other contestants improved their stage presentation and signalled their intention to battle to the last in their bid for the lucrative prizes up for grabs this year. There were however a few who fell short of the mark and were either unimpressive, weak, or lacked the onstage fire as dictated by the judges.
The semifinal was an event that offered much excitement and gratification for those that attended, as could be proven by their satisfied smiles and murmurs when the show concluded.
The event this year is sponsored by Ansa McAl Ltd, Beharry Automotive Ltd, NCN, Impressions, HJTV, Caribbean Airlines and Wireless Connection, under the theme ‘Caribbean Rhythm, Guyanese Vybz’.
Voting for the contestants ends tonight, at midnight.
