Two drivers escaped unhurt last night when two Toyota Carina motorcars collided at the junction of Sheriff Street and Campbell Avenue.
One passenger however sustained injuries as a result of the accident.
According to Christopher Seaford, of 149 Campbell Housing Scheme, around 18:30 hrs he was driving his PLL 1583 motor along Campbell Avenue, Campbellville, and stooped at the junction of the two streets since the traffic light indicated that he must do so.
He said that suddenly out of nowhere, motorcar HB 4016 careened out of control and slammed into his parked vehicle.
Seaford said that the other car was speeding since no amount of braking avoided the accident. He said right after the accident a female driver hopped out of the vehicle, jumped over their damaged vehicle and trembling, seated herself on a concrete culvert nearby.
He said that investigations revealed that a male passenger in the car she had exited was bleeding and appeared to have suffered head injuries. He was later taken to a private hospital, since there were no records of his arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC)
An eyewitness said that the car which was piloted by the female driver was speeding along Sherriff Street, and unable to stop at a traffic light, careened into the other vehicle which had already stopped at the head of Campbell Avenue.
The supposed female driver was seen last night on the scene of the accident sobbing uncontrollably and refused to speak to reporters. After she was taken by a police car to the GPHC she also closed her eyes as she was placed in a wheelchair by porters and still refused to respond to reporters.
Her name was given by a hospital source as Nebblett Cole, of Lot 70 Section C, Sophia.
A woman who wished to remain anonymous related that she was walking along Sheriff Street when the car HB 4016 seemed to ‘go out of control’ hitting her on the right side before slamming into the other car parked at the Campbell Avenue and Sheriff Street Junction.
The police are investigating the matter.
