The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) yesterday announced the end of the deadline for the acquisition of motor vehicle licences.
The July 15 deadline was the last, after the original deadline was extended twice by the Commissioner-General of the Guyana Revenue Authority, Khurshid Sattaur.
Persons who failed to comply with this stipulated deadline will be penalised under the law.
As of today, the Guyana Police Force will be monitoring motor vehicle owners to ensure that they have their licences. Charges will be instituted against defaulters.
Motor vehicle owners who purchase their licence after the deadline will be required to pay an additional 10% on the cost of the document.
When applying for a new or renewed motor vehicle licence, the applicant must present the following documents: Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), insurance, fitness certificate and the previous year’s licence in the case of a renewal.
Persons purchasing licences in Essequibo, Berbice and Linden, where the manual system is still in use are also required to provide a photocopy of their vehicle registration to be kept by the certifying office, and present their TIN which can be verified at any GRA regional office.
The cost of a motor vehicle licence is based on the weight of the vehicle and the cost has remained the same as last year.
