Over $1 million in prize monies and trophies will be up for grabs when Victoria Kings / Cool 2 Promotions and Team Guyana USA stage the East Coast Demerara Cup Knockout Football Competition which starts on July 18 with a double header, at the Victoria ground.

Speaking with three members of the organising committee Lynton Luke, Calvin Marks and Mark Phillips last Monday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall where the trophies and prizes were displayed, they told Kaieteur Sport that 16 teams comprising clubs from the East Coast Demerara and Georgetown will vie for a top prize of $500,000, while the runner-up is set to receive $200,000, 3rd place $100,000 and 4th place $50,000, while each losing team will be presented with training equipment including balls and cones.
The teams invited from the East Coast are: Victoria Kings, Ann’s Grove, Mahaica, Golden Grove, Buxton Stars, Beterverwagting, Plaisance and Buxton, while those to represent G/town include Pele, Alpha United, GDF, Fruta Conquerors, Camptown, Beacons, BK Western Tigers and GFC.
According to Luke, the theme of the tournament is ‘Time to reconnect, time to unite’ and among the major sponsors are Body Central Boutique, One Stop Hardware Store, Colours Boutique, Giftland Office Max, Banks Power Stout, Region #4 Democratic Council, Guyana / USA Soccer League and H.N Nauth & Sons.
The double-header planned for Saturday will see Kings versus GFC in the feature game, while Ann’s Grove tackle Golden Grove from 18:00 hrs.
There will be a March Past of the participating teams shortly before the commencement of action.
