Competitors from Canada, USA and Trinidad and Tobago have confirmed participation for the second round of the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club ‘National Race of Champions’ Meeting which is scheduled to be staged on July 26, at the South Dakota Circuit.
According to President of the Club Aaron Bethune, who spoke with Kaieteur Sport yesterday, among those expected to arrive for the Meet include Kem Lall, Kemal Rahaman, Sanjay Sewsankar and John Joseph out of the USA, Shawn King out of Canada, Ravi Singh, Junior Phillips and Tanko Baboolall from T&T.
Bethune, who took over the Presidency from Vishok Persaud, disclosed that twenty-five races are carded for the day and rivalry in all the categories are anticipated to be fierce and competitive.
On the local side, drivers such as Andrew King, Kevin Jeffrey and Mark Vieira are expected to engage in battle in the Group 4 category, while Ryan Rahaman, who has dominated the Group 2B division and who recently graduated to the Group 3 class could look forward to a stiff challenge from the likes of Ravi Singh, Kem Lall, Gavin Gayadin and Kemal Seebaran.
The Group 2A category, which is the most subscribed of the lot, should also provide some thrilling races with Syed Hassan, Chet Singh, Raymond Ali, Jad Rahaman and Shiraz Roshandin, all in with a good chance of dominating the division.
The Rookie category is littered with drivers with serious ambitions to take the spotlight and should be very entertaining to watch.
The young brigade of Shane Seebarran, Shan Sewjattan, Romeo Singh, Anand Ranchand, Sheik Yassen and Ravi Deodass might be too much for Harold Hopkinson and company to handle.
The motor bikes and go-karts are always exciting to watch and this Meeting should be no different, especially with the Club now offering additional opportunities for anyone to hone their skills, so a new set of faces could spring upsets.
However, drivers such as Marcus Fiedtkou, Stanley Ming, Jerry Max-Gouveia and Kristian Jeffrey have proven in the past to be extremely difficult to overshadow.
The ‘big’ bikes have made a triumphant return and motor racing fans have since witnessed some nerve tingling duels involving Stephen ‘Valentino Rossi’ Vieira, Gregory Lopes, Maurice Menezes, Carlos Rodrigues and Andy Rajkaran and this occasion promises to be no different.
The smaller bikes also add to the excitement of the day and many of the above are also involved in this category as well.
The day promises to be one full of enthralling battles and heartbreak and fans are urged to come out in their numbers to witness the event.
Admission is $1500 for adults, while vehicles and children are free.
