Three more artistes have been added to the Jamzone 2009 Summer Break Weekend platter.
In addition to Machel Montano, Busy Signal and the Karma Chutney Band, the Jamzone four-day entertainment event has increased to include more Sizzling Reggae, Dancehall and Soca acts.
“Holding fast to tradition, we are making Jamzone 2009 the best yet in the interest of offering local entertainment lovers the international experience,” said Jamzone director, Kerwin Bollers.
Noting further that plans are heating up for the tourism calendar event, he said, “We’ve contracted Vegas, Peetah Morgan and Soca Sensation Patrice Roberts to heat up the Jamzone scene also and we are in talks with others.”
Vegas and Peetah Morgan are no strangers to performing on the local shores but Patrice Roberts of “have you ever been in love,” “Sugar,” “wukin up” and “Temper” fame will be making her debut and she is promising a full soca therapy package.
The first night of Jamzone activities will be the Chutney show, while Night Two will feature Dance Hall reggae. Night three is an all out Soca showcase featuring Machel Montano and Patrice Roberts as well as other yet to be announced names of mega Soca artistes.
On August 30, the Jamzone Summer Break Weekend concludes with the traditional all day beach party and games and culminates with the crowning of the 2009 Queen.
The ladies have already been selected for the pageant and training has commenced.
Based on Bollers’ initial assessment, “the lineup that I’ve seen is no walk over so the pageant would not be a walk in the park because all the delegates are strong contenders. But the pageant co-ordinator will say more about that at the launch.”
Tickets for the event go on sale from the beginning of August. Some will be available through sponsorship packages that will see people getting free tickets and being rewarded with appropriate gifts.
