Magistrate Fazil Azeez described the recent accident at Versailles, West Bank Demerara, which claimed the life of 24-year-old Levi Leon Seecharran, as a very serious matter yesterday, when he remanded Mohamed Khan to prison.
Khan appeared before Magistrate Azeez at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s court to answer charges of being an unlicensed driver and for breach of insurance.
However, the Magistrate did not fail to express his sentiments about the accident, pointing out that he was reliably informed that the driver of the truck had “mystic” from the scene and did not render assistance.
However, there were no additional charges made against Khan, since according to Police Prosecutor, Sherwin Matthews, the police were not yet in possession of the results of a post mortem which was scheduled to be conducted on Seecharran’s body yesterday.
Matthews disclosed that after the results of the post mortem is known; it is likely that the police would seek the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution before any further charges are made.
Khan was remanded to prison until next Friday to re-appear before the same Magistrate.
Meanwhile, a post mortem conducted at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Seecharran’s body yesterday was witnessed by his brother-in-law, Rajindranauth Tribohan, also known as Sonny. According to Sonny, it was simply related to him that Seecharran died as a result of multiple injuries.
A funeral service for the late Seecharran will be held on Saturday, after which he will be interred at the Good Hope Burial site.
