The Queen’s College Old Students’ Association launched the first of its fundraisers for this year at the Dutch Bottle Café last Friday under the theme “QCOSA Quiz Night”.
The event was well attended by close to 60, forcing the organisers to provide additional seating accommodation.
Ten teams registered their players and it was game on, in an atmosphere of friendly excitement, with colourful QC-OSA insignia and signage around the room.
Among the teams participating were Q- less, Here for Beer , We-kipedia and Free-ks, with notable personalities like Laurie Lewis, the longest serving QC-OSA President, Conrad Plummer (former Vice-President), and several current QC-OSA executives, including president, Neville Burke and vice-presidents, Colin Jackson and Nicholas Chuck-A-Sang, making their presence felt.
Quiz mistresses for the evening, Cristel Cheong and Diedre Davis, soon got proceedings going in the first of seven categories.
Among the topics were general knowledge, 2010 Football World Cup T-Shirts., Current affairs, Pop Star Caricatures, Geography –Africa, Movie Posters, Moonwalk, and Music – Name That Tune.
Teams were allowed to name a category as their wild cards which doubled any points scored in that category.
The battle raged right from the first round with Team We-kipedia taking the early lead but soon losing it to the Free-ks, who ended up claiming the trophy and the Ansa Mcal hamper with 67 points.
We-kipedia picked up second place which was one iced cake.
Because of the great spirit in which the competition was held, each team was awarded two novels with the new QC-OSA sticker, courtesy of President Neville Burke and Roger Gajraj.
There were calls for the event to be repeated at a later date.
The presence of former executives like past president Laurie Lewis, past vice president, Conrad Plummer and ex-executive members Trumel Redmond and Mario Ramotar strengthened the event and gives a major confidence boost to the current executives as they continue tirelessly for the improvement of Queen’s College as a Learning Institution.
