An 18-year-old was yesterday charged with resisting arrest, after she allegedly stole a cellular phone, claiming it to be hers.
Rinna Pollard, of 15 South Cummings Lodge, yesterday appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on a charge of resisting arrest.
On Saturday July 4, Pollard allegedly snatched a cell phone from an unsuspecting Evon Headley and ran off into the Stabroek Market.
She pleaded not guilty.
The accused, who sells in the Stabroek Market, was jointly charged with Ronald Wilson. Wilson did not appear in court.
According to police prosecutor Denise Griffith, Headley and another woman were engaged in conversation when the accused approached them and took the phone claiming that it belonged to her.
Thereafter she ran into the Stabroek Market. Authorities later caught up with the accused on Croal Street Stabroek, and proceeded to arrest her.
The 18-year-old resisted the arrest, but was eventually taken into custody.
The Attorney-at-Law Peter Hugh who was representing Pollard told the court that he knows the virtual complainant personally, and therefore cannot represent the defendant any further than the application for bail. Bail was refused.
