Defending champions New Amsterdam United (NAU) were held to a 1-1 draw in their feature clash against Pistons United as play in the Berbice Football Association (BFA) / Coca Cola Senior League continued last Sunday, at Burnham Park, New Amsterdam.
Adrian Adams found the back of the nets in the 83rd minute to give NAU the lead and while they would have harboured thoughts of sealing the deal with time ticking away, Pistons had other ideas and with two minutes to go for full time, the underdogs struck when Brian Simpson converted from a corner kick to equal the score and share the points.
The first match of the double header was not played due to late arrival of Mahaicony United and non-appearance of Scottsburg. This matter has now engaged the attention of the Competitions Committee which is expected to institute penalties in accordance with the rules that govern the competition.
In results from Saturday action, Scottsburg and Strike Force United played to a 2–2 tie.
The first half ended 2-1 in favour of Scottsburg with Andrew Benn (16) and Earl Allicock (30), being the men on target. Strike Force responded through Lynton Keppler in the 17th minute, while Trevon Bailey’s 65th minute effort leveled things up as the game petered out into a tame draw.
Over at the Blairmont No. 3 ground, a goal in each half by Delroy Fraser of Real Union secured victory for his side over Rosignol United by the odd goal in three. Fraser netted in the 37th and 45th minutes.
Rosignol got their consolation goal off the boot of Cornel Taylor in the 30th minute.
Strike Force, were on the losing end as Barzilla secured their first win of the tournament whipping the former 4-0.
Mark Amsterdam blasted a hat-trick in the 6th, 56th & 67th, while his brother Leslie, tucked in the other in the 14th minute.
NAU lead the points table with 10 from 4 matches and are yet to taste defeat.
