Jul 09, 2009 Letters
Dear Editor,
I reply to Mr. Vishnu Bisram’s letter under the caption “Focus on contents instead of writer” (Kaieteur News July 8, 2009).
Mr. Bisram would like us all to believe that he supported Barack Obama for President and all I did was pointed out that as the Diplomatic Editor of the Caribbean New Yorker (CNY), Mr. Bisram never once penned a single opinion piece that was favourable to Mr. Obama prior to the elections.
Furthermore I called upon Mr. Bisram and his supporters to prove me wrong. Instead what we get is Mr. Bisram pointing out that he wrote positive comments of Obama in CNY (Oct 31, Oct 24, Oct 17, etc.) giving the example that he wrote on Oct 31, “it was impossible for McCain to defeat Obama”.
Now, we all know that Mr. Bisram is well know for his NACTA polls, but certainly polling or stating the obvious cannot be considered “positive comments” as Mr. Bisram would have us believe. And please take a good look at the dates he quotes, all merely a few weeks or less before the elections and which by then every single pollster and media outlet and even the McCain camp knew that Obama was way ahead in the polls.
For the record let me restate for the last time that the CNY never published a single positive article in favour of Mr. Obama prior to the elections, and while Mr. Bisram claims to have made phone calls on behalf of Mr. Obama, the fact is that he was the Diplomatic Editor of the CNY during the entire Presidential campaign and not once did Mr. Bisram have the guts to pen a positive article about Obama in the CNY during that time.
Let the record show, that since my first letter on this matter sometime ago, Mr. Bisram has twice responded and he has yet provide any date of his “positive article” on Obama prior to the elections.
Mr. Bisram says that I am motivated by personality. He is correct, after all this series of letters started out with Mr. Bisram condescending letter to us Muslims about how we should accept Mr. Obama’s message to the Muslim World.
That statement stinks of hypocrisy, especially coming from Vishnu Bisram. Again, I have no problem who Mr. Bisram or the CNY choose to support. All I am saying is that Mr. Bisram is a hypocrite when it comes to the issue of Obama. Mr. Bisram knows only too well where the CNY loyalty lies and that writing in support of a Black politician would not have gone down well with the powers that be at the CNY. Instead, he now tells us about things like his phone calls made of behalf of Obama and about some protest or struggle waged by himself, Obama and others at CCNY in the 1980’s.
You know, the kind of stuff that is as verifiable as the mailing address or phone number of NACTA or where they are registered or who is President and/or secretary of NACTA, etc.
