Organisers release teams
The CARICOM AllStar Basketball Extravaganza that was slated for Monday in Linden, at Mackenzie Sports Club court, has been shifted to tomorrow at the same venue, where players will finally have their respective Showtime opportunities.
The East versus West Schools’ and Senior All-Star games were postponed on Monday due to persistent rainfall. The first duel, which will be the schools’, is expected to commence at 7pm with the senior game set for 9pm.
Floyd Martindale and Calvin Slowe will perform coaching duties for the East, with Kashif and Shanghai Kings and national shooting guard, Steve Neils Jr. as captain. Jason Alonzo and Marvin Hartman are the other nationals on the team.
Kings’ Omally Sampson; Retrieve Raiders’ Louis James and Alexander Rose; Jets’ Neil Simon, Alister Webster, Akeem Kanhai and Kevin Joseph; New Ballers’ Gavin Fingal and Leonard Caleb are the other East All-Stars.
Kester Jeffrey and Claude Williams are the coaches identified for the West team. Royals’ Dwayne ‘Sugar’ Roberts will captain the side that include Orlando Glasgow, Chris Williams, Lawrence DaCosta and Anson Durant.
Glands Trucking Service’s Bulls, Ruel McKinnon, Terrence James and Kurliegh Austin; Wismar Pistons’ Quincy Jones, Trevor Profit and Nevin Grenville round off the All-Stars for the West for the inaugural Linden event.
The winners of the senior competition take home $60,000, while second place is worth $40,000. Trophies will be at stake in the schools’ contest. Major sponsors include Digicel and United States-based Randy Craig and Ian Kendall.
