Summer is set to sizzle in the British Virgin Islands with the hottest fashion extravaganza in Tortola through a jam-packed weekend filled with A-lists and fashion enthusiasts alike. Among them will be a Guyana-to-the-bone designer with the international know-how.
The islands are promised a taste of Guyana/ New York combined through Roger Gary’s Aqua Couture. Hosted by Terry Donovan of Signature it will feature fashion powerhouses Baby Phat/Phat Farm, Bravo-TV Project Runway finalist Korto Momulu, Guyana-born international designer.
With the Caribbean’s First Lady, Claudia Pegus of Trinidad, American evening wear designer Cesar Galindo, Menswear designer Edwing D’Angel, New York ultra hip Menswear designer Ocie Collins III, Elements of Earth Accessories by Earth Rowe, Andre Etienne of St. Thomas, Trefle Designs by Kristin Frazer, Tortola B.V.I., this is sure to be the most dazzling event of the summer!
The four-day bash starts on July 23 and runs through Sunday, July 26, 2009.
When asked of the schedule of events, Fashion Event and Editorial producer, Terry Donovan boasts, “There is the Culture and Style Welcome Bash on Thursday, July 23, 2009, Then there is the White Sunset Fashion Fete hosted and co-sponsored by Lambert Beach Resort at dusk on Friday, Saturday night of course belongs to our gala event, the Summer Sizzle Fashion Show and After Party”.
“The whole concept of Summer Sizzle Fashion Show is to reflect a New York City Runway Show as seen on TV. I am bringing the New York City fashion scene to the B.V.I”, says Terry Donovan. Locals and visitors alike can enjoy all the festivities including the Summer Fashion & Beauty Bazaar, co-sponsored by Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs on Friday July 24 and Saturday July 25 at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park.
The Fashion and Beauty Bazaar will feature an array of fashion and beauty products from local businesses and participating designers. Basically, there is a party every night. We want our guests to remember the B.V.I. experience and dream of returning next year. Summer Sizzle B.V.I. is a Pre-Festival event and it will put people in the party mood for the upcoming B.V.I Festival.”
The B.V.I. Tourist Board, and the Ministry of Education and Culture are both Platinum sponsors of Summer Sizzle B.V.I., recognizing the benefits to the islands’ overall economy.
ROGER GARY
It has been said of Roger Gary that his fashion philosophy encompasses the totality of being a woman through which the clothes and the woman becomes one.
Born in Guyana, Roger demonstrated signs of his love for art and fashion by his unusual and unpredictable creations even at an early age. He attended the E.R Burrowes School of Art under the tutelage of the late Denis Williams. He also attended the Jamaica School of Art in Kingston, Jamaica where he was encouraged to pursue his true calling, Fashion Design and upon his arrival in New York attended Pratt Institute for a year and the Parsons School of Design.
Roger Gary is steadily making his way up the totem pole of the international fashion scene with a style that is unmatched. He has honed his skills and produced some of the most elegant eveningwear, daywear and swimwear for his private clientele and fashion-forward customers.
He was among the first designer to be featured at the original “Fashion Café” in Rockefeller Centre, NYC.
His collections have been showcased during New York Fashion Week, Brooklyn Fashion Weekend, Caribbean Fashion Week, Style Week Jamaica, Barbados Fashion Week, St. Kitt’s Fashion Week, Virgin Islands Fashion Week, Summer Sizzle BVI, the preview of Guyana Fashion Xpo and the International Designer’s Show.
Totally in control of the creative process to insure the high standard of each garment, Roger believes in offering a quality product that has a touch of fantasy, yet practical and modern.
