William Sandiford, a pork knocker, of Wisrock, Linden, who was caught with 31 grams of cannabis at Buch Hall, Essequibo was refused bail by Magistrate Faith McGusty.
Sandiford, 46, was charged with the possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
To that charge he pleaded not guilty.
According to the police on July 7, last, at Buck Hall, at a camp where Sandiford resides, ranks, acting on information, found a haversack that contained the illegal substance.
In court today Sandiford vehemently denied knowledge of the illegal substance and claimed that he was arrested before he was told of the charge placed before him.
And in the same court a 17-year-old of Springlands, Corentyne, and inmate of the New Opportunity Corps who in an effort tried to make his way back home to Berbice will remain in police custody for another year.
Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty imposed the sentence.
He was convicted of wandering while he was an inmate of NOC.
The youth According to a police release, Yassin who was summoned to clean the compound at NOC on July 3, escaped and was recaptured on the same day.
The teenager told the magistrate that he was disgusted at the unpleasant treatment he has to endure at that facility.
