Guyana fell to Trinidad and Tobago by a 23-5 margin in their first game of the NAWIRA Under-19 tournament, which commenced on Sunday, at the South Sound Rugby Club ground in the Cayman Islands, with three matches in the quarter final stages.
According to reports, the Guyana team started tentatively in the first half and within 10 minutes, were trailing 12 points to nil, having allowed two tries and one conversion to the T&T team. In the second half T&T scored another try along with two penalties, while Guyana, despite having scoring opportunities was only able to counter with one try by Soren Cox.
Meanwhile, in other results: Jamaica (34 points) defeated Bahamas (9 points) and Mexico (33 points) beat Bermuda (0 points). Cayman Islands, last year’s winner had a bye to the semi-finals, which is to be played tomorrow and will join first day winners Jamaica, Mexico and Trinidad in the Cup Competition. Guyana, Bahamas and Bermuda will play each other in the Bowl Competition.
Guyana’s next game is against Bermuda on Thursday.
