Twenty-year-old former Guyana Under-19 cricketer, Ryan Hercules scored his maiden ton in England last Monday in the semi-final of the 20/20 league tournament and followed up with a career best 7-21 on Saturday in the 50 overs League.
The East Bank Essequibo fast bowling all-rounder smashed 10 sixes and 3 fours from just 53 balls in an explosive unbeaten 101 to see to 222-3 off 20 overs against Darely Cricket Club who reached 142-8 in 20 overs.
Hercules, who batted at number three, came in after Jamaican Lorenzo Ingram fell for a first ball duck and his enterprising array of dismissive drives and pulls brought the crowd to life in murky conditions. He also took 2-23 from his 4 overs to help his team into next
Hercules, in his first season of English cricket dedicated his century to his mother Esther Hercules who celebrated her birthday last Thursday.
“I am happy to have gotten a century as a birthday gift for my mom in Guyana. She is my role model, my biggest supporter and the reason why I am here,” Hercules informed.
And on Saturday the Guyanese continued his impressive run as a professional by grabbing a career best 7-21 to follow up his maiden 20/20 century.
Hercules ripped through the Scarfort batting to give his team a 70-run victory and the lead in the competition.
Shadwell made 156 off 43 overs with Alex Blakebourgh making 41 and Tomas James 27. Hercules contributed just three runs. Scarfort then relinquished their lead on the points table when they fell for 86.
Hercules said that he is hoping to end the season on a high before returning home for the Inter-County tournament, which now includes a Rest team.
“I have learned so much about being a true professional from playing here in the English conditions and technically I think my cricket has improved. My next aim is to do well in for Essequibo, when I get back home to break into the Guyana senior team,” Hercules told Kaieteur Sport from Leeds.
