A woman was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in a critical condition, after she was allegedly stabbed by her abusive mate yesterday afternoon.
Shalo Gildarie, 19, of Vigilance, East Coast Demerara was admitted with a stab wound to each upper thigh.
While relatives of her supposed attacker are claiming that she accidentally fell on a knife while gutting some fish, Gildarie’s mother, Sugeet Ramkumar, is crying foul since she claimed that her daughter’s mate is very irresponsible and abusive.
Doctors yesterday evening were battling to save the life of the young girl since a main artery was severed.
According to the girl’s mother, around noon, a man whom she identified as ‘Krishna’ contacted her to inform her that her daughter had fallen on a knife. The woman said that she immediately suspected otherwise, since it is impossible for her to have two separate wounds on both inner thighs if she had fallen on a knife.
The woman said that when she arrived on the scene, her daughter looked pale and almost lifeless. She added that there was blood everywhere and that the man’s relatives were instructing that she ‘clean the mess up’ even as she was hurrying to get her daughter to a hospital.
According to Ramkumar, the wounded girl began frothing at the mouth while she was being transported to the hospital in a taxi.
She said that Krishna’s mother, called ‘Leeda’ and another relative accompanied her to the hospital but disappeared shortly after.
The woman told this newspaper that on an earlier occasion, her daughter’s companion had dealt the now injured woman several lashes about her body with a cutlass even though she was pregnant with his child.
The suspected assailant has been taken into police custody. Up to press time the wounded woman was still in theatre as doctors battled to save her life.
