…alleges attacker was a man from another store
(By Mondale Smith)
What was described as an apparent robbery on the Reshma’s Collection Store in the City Mall, left a woman with several chops to her head and hospitalised in a serious condition.
Mother of two, Dhanmattie Phulchand, 24, was alone in her store about 16:30hrs when terror was unleashed on her by a man who walked in, reportedly brandishing a chopper.
Reports from the woman’s relatives indicate that she has positively identified her attacker as a man from another clothing store in the Mall, one floor up.
While the motive for the attack was not clear, a friend who was in the Mall at the time told this publication that Phulchand was relieved of her hand bag containing an undisclosed sum of cash, including a sizable sum of US currency.
The close friend who spoke with her after the incident, said that the attacker came from another store one floor up in the City Mall and that the man had hit her several times in her head to render her unconscious.
Eventually, persons went to her aid and the man fled, leaving her lying in a pool of her own blood.
Shortly after the attack, this publication visited the scene where a crowd had gathered and persons were seen covering the glass doors and walls of the store with paper. There was blood on the floor.
One woman said “is like he catch she off guard because I see he start firing chops and I run, then little after some people wrap she in a white sheet and carry she out of here like dead.”
Another report was that the attacker was a man who walked into the store and “started to slam she head in till she fall down on the ground and he kick she up.”
The New Road Vreed-en Hoop resident was whisked away to the Georgetown Public Hospital emergency room in a semi-conscious state and was immediately rushed into the treatment room.
She was x-rayed and several medical officials were seen working on her around a bed. Upon arriving at the Georgetown Public Hospital several relatives and friends hoped for the best. Hospital sources reported that the woman’s injuries required her head to be shaved and it was discovered that she was chopped several times; her face was swollen. This publication understands that the woman was robbed on previous occasions. In one instance a robber took away $150,000, but nothing came out of the matter.
