The 2009 Trophy Stall/Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) Inter Jamaat 10 overs tapeball round-robin cricket competition commenced last Sunday at the MYO ground, Woolford Avenue, Thomas Lands, with opening wins for LBI, Grove, Enmore, Land of Canaan and Triumph ‘B’.
The latter three gaining full points without bowling a ball as their respective opponents, Diamond New Scheme, Farm ‘B’ and Old Mosque never showed up.
In the two matches played, LBI batting first against Guyana Islamic Trust (GIT) posted 89-4 off their allotted overs with extras contributing a healthy 17. Salim Khan struck 36 supported by Rahman Alli with 16 runs. GIT in reply were limited to 66-9, Zafar Mohamed and extras contributed 14 each. Bowling for LBI, Khab Waiz grabbed 4-11 and Salim Khan 2-20.
Grove took to the crease first in their encounter against Enmore and eased to 106-7 off their overs. Shahab Manjoor leading with an unbeaten 31, backed up by Shameer Ghannie’s 23.
Shane Joseph and Ejaz Hatim took 3 wickets apiece for Enmore, who could only manage 92-7 when their overs expired. Asif Mohamed led with 19 and Safraz Karim 15. The main wreckers for Grove were Shafeek Ishmael and Erasto King with 2 wickets each with one going to Shameer Ghanie.
Matches are slated to continue on Sunday and Monday at the same venue.
